Lorenzo Sadun’s Letter to the Statesman (2004 CD10 Democratic Candidate - write-in)

I was shocked to read Rich Oppel’s piece last Sunday, describing Congressman Michael McCaul as a moderate who responded to the needs of his mixed constituency. In fact, McCaul’s constituent service is the worst of any congressman I have ever seen. I have written to him about issues before Congress many, many times, but I have never received so much as a form letter in return. He has, however, sent me numerous requests for campaign contributions, all touting the special access I would receive if I gave the maximum allowed by law!

McCaul’s approach is to follow the wishes of those who give him money, and to ignore the wishes of everybody else. It’s no wonder that, in a gerrymandered district designed to vote 2:1 Republican, he only got 55% of the vote in 2006 — the lowest winning margin of any Republican Congressman in Texas.
