Donna Beth McCormick’s Letter to the Statesman
In the Sunday Commentary on Mike McCaul, Rich Oppel stated that ‘He won re-election with a solid 55 percent of the vote.’ He won with the least percentage of any incumbent Congressman in Texas. Mike McCaul had $600,000. His opponent, Ted Ankrum, who was a first time candidate with no name ID when he started, had $65,000 and an all volunteer campaign. Ted was everywhere. Mike McCaul was nowhere. I have only seen him once - at a distance - and we live in the same town, same part of town. The people at the other end of the district have not seen him at all. Constituent services are few and far between. His constituents have said it is non-existent, especially in the other end of the district. In Austin, they may or may not return emails or calls. His staff does not show up at civic events - non-political civic events.
Two weeks out from the election, he went around the district delivering money for fire trucks, school grants, etc. If Ted had had money for TV and a paid campaign staff, Mike McCaul would be history.
Mike McCaul does what the leadership tells him to. Look at his voting record - lock step. The district was cut out for him. Just look at it. It swings around to get his house, just like it swung down to get Lloyd’s house. And in between, it got my house. It goes from Travis to Harris and the counties, or portions of the counties, in between.
I don’t know who Mike McCaul is representing, but does not seem to be those in his district. Why is he there? He is no Jake Pickle.
